Cadets Get Taste Of Life At Sea

On Saturday a group of NTS Comet Cadets were invited to a special behind-the-scenes tour of HMAS Toowoomba – an Anzac class frigate.
The cadets were introduced to all the major systems on board and enjoyed using night vision, laser targeting and trying on the protective clothing used in damage control and boarding parties. They were treated to lunch in the Junior Sailors’ Mess at HMAS Stirling.
Office in Charge David Karcheski said it was a great experience for the cadets.
“We are very grateful to the Executive Officer of HMAS Toowoomba LTCDR S. Blume for organising such an amazing day.”
Comet Bay College student and CDT REC Charli Wright described the visit as “an experience like no other”.
“It allowed us to see through the eyes of people currently serving in the navy and learn about life aboard ship. I personally enjoyed seeing the control room and sitting in the Captain’s chair.”
NTS Comet parades every Wednesday during school terms from 6.20pm until 9.30pm and welcomes 12 to 18-year-olds. To find out more contact Officer In Charge SBLT David Karcheski at David.karcheski1@Navycadets.gov.au.
