Comet Bay College’s Targeted Enrichment Learning Program numeracy specialist Siobhan Reeves found a sweet way to help our Year 7 and 8 students understand fractions, with the help of Smarties, Skittles and M&Ms.
The students were all given a snack pack of the treats and asked to find out the fraction of each colour in their packet.
Miss Reeves said it was a practical way to understand fractions, which can be complex at times.
“The students were so engaged in this activity that we had to do it twice – which meant twice as much work but double the rewards too!” she said.
