Comet Bay College has introduced a Home Room to its 2023 timetable to build a greater connectedness to the College and pastoral care system.
Home Room begins at 8.48am before classes commence at 9am.
Principal Kelly Bennett said students were grouped according to their assigned House and would have one Home Room Mentor who would check in with them daily and remain with the class each year, building a strong connection with the students.
“We will be focussing on rewarding students for meeting College expectations – catching them being good – and providing Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) points for doing the right thing,” Mrs Bennett said.
“PBS points lead to prizes and we will be working closely with our students to find out what tangible rewards will motivate them to attend school regularly, on time and in the correct uniform.”
A series of activities has been implemented during Home Room to ensure it is meaningful and in line with the College’s purpose of fostering positive, respectful communities.
The College Home Room daily themes are:
Mentor Monday – celebrate our attendance and have some healthy competition between the Houses and Year groups, setting goals and targets to improve;
Tuesday News Day – discuss current affairs and local news and build a stronger connection to community and the world;
Wellness Wednesday – practice Mindfulness and Resilience strategies;
PBS Thursday – focus on PBS values and actively teach behaviour expectations; and
Faction Friday – full of fun quizzes, competitions and games to enhance our House system.
