A group of Year 9 students spent three days exploring Dwellingup recently as part of their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
The students hiked the Dwellingup hills, set up their bushland campsites and were responsible for cooking their own meals during the camp. It is all part of the Award program, which encourages community engagement and self-improvement through the development of physical, practical and social skills.
Associate Dean of Gifted and Talented Michael Wood said Comet Bay College had offered students the chance to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award for the past five years because of the opportunities to boost student resilience, collaboration and leadership.
“It was wonderful to see the students challenge themselves – some outside of their comfort zone – and work together as a team,” he said. “I’m proud of the efforts they have put into the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award all year, and the camp was a great way to continue their work and celebrate how much they have achieved.”
