As part of the Year 9 Career Taster program, 13 of our students went to South Metro TAFE in Rockingham to experience a day in the life of a construction worker, trying their hands at tiling, bricklaying and wall fixing.
Career Practitioner Kay Vipond said all students were fully engaged throughout the day, coming away with basic knowledge of all three trades.
“They were surprised how hard it was being on their feet all day but persevered and showed some good skills,” she said. “They learnt about the various pathways into the Construction Industry and, most importantly, were reminded they needed a C grade in Maths and good school attendance to gain entry into TAFE.”
