Flutes, jousting, magical potions and royalty returned to Comet Bay College late last term for our annual Medieval Fair.
Hosted by our Year 8 cohort as part of their HASS studies, the event transformed our Performing Arts Centre into a medieval village complete with old-world games, garland headdress making and a feast for all. Students served up wondrous potions and browsed displays of medieval attire, weapons and medicines. Drama and musical performances, plus a special maypole dance, capped off the event.
Year 8 research and history projects were also on display in our front foyer, showcasing our students’ knowledge of medieval history and the Black Death.
Comet Bay College has been running the Fair for more than a decade. HASS Associate Dean Michelle Statham said the fair’s success is attributed to the enthusiasm of the Year 8 students who enjoy showcasing their love of history beyond the classroom and textbooks.
“Other departments across the school always support the event, such as the Home Economics Department which makes the medieval soup, the Science Department which creates a range of potions and the Arts Department which showcases a medieval dance and provides music to serenade all visitors,” Ms Statham said.
