Year 11 Media ATAR student Jacob Weaver is in the running for a national short film award after submitting a school project for selection.
Titled “Hardware”, his five-minute documentary showcases his experiences as an inexperienced filmmaker.
Jacob, who is still adding the finishing touches to the project for an upcoming College deadline, said he was surprised to have been named the WA finalist in the REELise Film Festival.
“I had been wanted to make a film about his subject for a few years, but didn’t until I learned about our documentary assignment,” he said. “I didn’t really expect to be selected because it is an unfinished project.”
Jacob said he aspired to work in the film industry and had a passion for comedy and improvisation when shooting. He is just as comfortable in front of the camera as he is behind it.
“You get to create and make stories about whatever you want – there really is no restriction on what you can do with filmmaking,” he said.
The second round of judging will take place in October with the competition winners announced in November. Good luck, Jacob!
