Years of practise on the bagpipes has paid off for Comet Bay College Year 8 student Jack Banks, who recently won the WA Perth Bagpiper Solo Junior State Title.
Jack, who has been playing for about five years, also took out the title for the C Grade division. He said he was proud of the titles, which he described as a result of hard work.
“Bagpipes are notably some of the most difficult instruments to play. They depend on air control and you must play the correct notes as you blow and squeeze at the same time,” he said. “You have to keep the air flowing at the right pressure at all times.”
Jack, who has a proud Scottish heritage, is a member of the Rockingham City Pipe Band and WA Police Youth Band.
“I love marching in the Anzac marches and Christmas parades, and I also play at Rockingham’s Citizenship ceremonies. I really enjoy playing in band and solo competition.”
Well done, Jack!
