Our Year 9 students enjoyed playing for power in HASS today, when they took part in an Imperialism Game.
Students were divided into groups and each assigned a major European Power prior to World War I. All the territories across Africa were up for grabs.
Teacher Sara Tyrrell said students had to roll a die, with the highest score winning the territory. If two players rolled a six, a ‘war’ would ensue to decide who gained the territory.
“This simulation game is designed to represent the ‘Scramble for Africa’ as major European Powers competed to have the biggest Empire, one of the main causes of WWI,” she said. “The students became quite animated and very competitive!”
