Comet Bay College celebrated National HASS Week this week with a host of activities for students to foster a greater awareness of the world around them.
Our enthusiastic HASS department designed a range of lunchtime activities for students to participate in, including medieval games, paper plane contests, crime scene investigations and virtual treasure hunts.
There were also some creative projects available for students to access in the library, including international puzzles and games, quizzes, two mystery suitcase challenges and futuristic costume and flag design competitions.
Humanities and Social Sciences Associate Dean Tara Holmes said HASS studies were becoming more important in a world that was increasingly culturally diverse and dynamically interconnected.
“It is important that students come to understand their world, past and present, and develop a capacity to respond to challenges, now and in the future, in innovative, informed, personal and collective ways,” she said. “The events this week will help students to develop a sense of wonder, curiosity and respect about places, people, cultures and systems throughout the world and an interest in and enjoyment of the study of these phenomena.”
