Our Year 11 and 12 ATAR Geography students headed back to the sandpit today for a hands-on activity designed to improve their spatial literacy skills.
They got their hands dirty in the College’s Augmented Reality Sand Table, which uses technology to help students understand what 3D landforms look like on a 2D map.
HASS teacher Sara Tyrrell said interpreting maps was a big portion of the Geography curriculum.
“The technology we are able to use in classrooms today is incredible,” she said.
“Students can form ridges, plateaus and convex and concave slopes and see instantly how they look on the topographical screen. These hands-on activities can be key to unlocking a student’s understanding of complex theoretical content.”
