Our Year 8 Gifted and Talented students have been putting their heads together during their HASS classes to develop exciting and innovative start-up businesses or apps.
They are participating in a six-month STEM endorsed program called Just Start It, and will be competing against some of the state’s sharpest young minds, from schools such as Rossmoyne and Shenton Park Senior High Schools, for a chance to win $5000 for their innovation.
HASS Associate Dean Michelle Statham said through the program students get access to mentors from Curtin University who will inspire them to bring Silicon Valley methodologies into the classroom.
“Working in teams, the students will research and develop their idea which will be judged on its real commercial potential,” she said. “In the past, students who have participated in this project have pitched businesses or apps that have gained corporate sponsorship and become a viable enterprise. Let’s hope some of our students have that same success.”
