Criminology Fosters Inquisitive Minds

Measuring boot prints, analysing skid marks and preserving evidence using plaster casts may sound like tasks conducted inside a forensic lab, however, it was all part of class for our Year 9 Criminology students last week.
The students looked closely at the speed, direction and velocity of tyre tracks, used ink to reproduce tyre marks and carefully studying footprints and impressions, before attempting to preserve the evidence with the aid of plaster.
HASS Teacher Emilie Ingate said the hands on research made Criminology a popular elective for students.
“Criminology demands observation, research and accuracy while fostering inquisitive minds and analytical skills,” she said. “We also get to play with fake blood and recreate crime scenes, so it brings together elements of mystery that really inspire them to get involved in their studies.”
