eV Challenge Trophy Haul

Comet Bay College students returned from this weekend’s 2021 eV Challenge Powered by Synergy with another haul of trophies.
Eleven students from across the College attended Saturday’s event which saw the College win the Junior Championship and perform strongly in the Senior Division.
Year 8 Rocco Came flew around Wanneroo International Kartway at such high speed, his Fastest Lap win in the Junior Division was also the fastest lap ever recorded at the eV Challenge’s current circuit!
Design and Technology Associate Dean and eV Challenge Program Coordinator Clay Woolcock said it was exciting to see perpetual trophies return to Comet Bay College cabinets.
“We’ve always performed exceptionally at the eV Challenge and this year’s participating students should be extremely proud of the work they put in and the results they achieved,” he said.
“We’ve got a new group of students this year who dedicated three hours each week to designing, building and racing their cars. All of our Year 7 participants are enrolled in our new STEM Academy and we’ve attracted some very clever GAT students and Year 10 boys striving for a STEP pathway.
“The eV Challenge draws upon all the fundamental STEM skills that we promote right across the College – problem-solving, innovation, communication and collaboration. They are skills we know students need to open doors in today’s ever-changing career market.”
The eV Challenge is Australia’s premier STEM competition and the country’s longest running electric motorsport contest in which teams must design, build and race single-seat electric vehicles.
It has been running for 20 years, with Comet Bay College participating in the past six competitions.
Congratulations to all students on our 2021 team – Taj De Worboies, Luke Taylor, Flynn Read, Nicholas Panaia, Ellie George, Rocco Came, Anastasia Drakulic, Irene Van Der Merwe, Brock Tadic, Mason Fraser and Stephanie Burrows.
