Geography Buffs the Best in the West!

Two Comet Bay College students have won prizes in the 2021 Australian Geography Competition.
Amad Arzavi, Year 11, and Joseph Cook, Year 12, were the top male students in their respective Year groups across WA.
The contest, which has been running since 1995, attracts more than 70,000 students from almost 800 schools.
Teacher Sara Tyrrell said she was extremely proud two of her students had taken the honours.
“We have been entering this competition for many years, and to have two State winners this year has been absolutely wonderful,” she said.
“Joseph and Amad are both passionate about their studies and it is great they are being recognised and awarded for their efforts.”
As the top Year 11 student, Amad has won a trip to Queensland to participate in the annual Geography’s Big Week Out – a six-day event which focuses on fieldwork, spatial technologies and analytical skills. Australia’s teams to the annual International Geography Olympiad are selected from the students at the Geography’s Big Week Out.
Joseph received a certificate and book.
