Masters of Puppetry

Nuts, bolts, fabric, paper and other household items came to life in the form of “junk puppet” in a special workshop at Comet Bay College this week.
Our Year 8 Drama Extension students put on their creative hats to design and construct their own puppets, with support from Spare Parts Puppet Theatre puppeteer Kylie Bywaters.
Teacher Jenna Gregory said the workshop was a great way to kick-start the semester.
“The students learned a lot about making puppets from an industry professional,” Mrs Gregory said.
“They had to think carefully about their character, its personality and the puppet’s functionality and movement.
“Students also learned performance skills and what it takes to be a puppeteer, and will be working in groups to create a performance using their own puppets.”
