Comet Bay College has employed innovative measures to keep children and their parents engaged and informed during social distancing restrictions, including online assemblies.
Our first online assembly was set via CONNECT last week.
The production was the work of two Year 12 Certificate II Creative Industries Media students, Savannah Sletten and Skye Robbins.
The girls said producing the video was a great way to practise their production skills.
“It was really fun to film and although we experienced some technical difficulties while editing, I was really proud of the final product,” Savannah said.
The assembly included “welcome back” messages from Principal Jamie Hayres and our Student Support Associate Deans, a fun physical challenge, house leaderboard updates, our anti-bullying poster competition winner and awards for students displaying the Term Two focus ‘E’ for Effort.
Congratulations to Dezarae Terepo (Year 12) for her powerful anti-bullying poster, and Year 7 student Charli Wright who received an honourable mention for her creative design.
Certificate winners included Paige Griffiths and Bernard Lohse in Year 8, Olivia Fuller, Harry Case, Lacey Hunter and Bonnie Lokvancic in Year 9 and Jackson Wright in Year 12.
Dean of Positive Culture Team Kelly Hulin said the online assembly had generated a lot of interest, and the staff and students were already brainstorming ideas for the next instalment, which will be shared in Week 8.
“We were really impressed with how the production turned out and how well it has been received,” Ms Hulin said.
“While we cannot gather in big groups, this new format is giving everyone the chance to remain connected and celebrate our students’ achievements, which is really important.
“It’s also a great tool to stay connected with parents and carers who would otherwise not be able to attend our assemblies, but can now view them at their own convenience.”
