Our Year 10 students had a blast in Science on Friday, literally, when teachers Laura Ellam and Krasanka Carmichael demonstrated a range of salt and metal reactive experiments.
The students evaluated what happens when pure forms of Calcium, Sodium and Potassium are added to water – and the bubbling, hissing and sparks drew great curiosity.
A colourful flame experiment also demonstrated the reactions of different salts.
Mrs Carmichael said the experiments provided a great visual representation of the theoretical chemistry work the students had been learning.
“We love it when hands-on fun complements our teaching, and it’s a great way to engage all students,” she said.
