Two of our students have been chosen to represent WA in upcoming Softball Championships in January.
Riley Cooper (Year 7) and Samuel Sheppard (Year 9) will fly to Canberra and Melbourne respectively, each representing WA for the first time.
Riley’s family is heavily involved in the sport – his mother, father and two sisters all play – but the 12-year-old only took it up two years ago.
The left-fielder and catcher is expecting tough competition at the 2020 Under 14 Boys’ Regional Softball Championship in Canberra.
“We’re training three times a week in Leeming, North Perth and Mirrabooka,” he said.
“I’m pretty prepared and excited to be going.”
Samuel Sheppard was picked for the 2020 Under 16 Boys’ National Softball Championship WA team during his inaugural year in the sport, after migrating baseball.
His father was a former State baseballer and is grandfather used to play softball.
Samuel currently plays third base for the Royals
“Softball is fast-paced,” he said.
“It’s not as easy as other sports, so it’s a bit of a challenge and I like that.”
We wish them both the best of luck.
