Big hitter Sam Sheppard has impressed State selectors once again, this time securing a spot on the Under 18s Baseball Championships.
Sam (Year 10) only returned from the Victoria last month were he was chosen to represent WA in the 2020 Under 16 Boys’ National Softball Championship.
He will now travel to New South Wales in April to play in the 2020 School Sport WA Under 18s team.
The 15-year-old will be one of the youngest in the competition, but is up for the challenge.
“I’ve always loved baseball – I’ve been playing it since I was 8 years old,” Sam said.
“In fact, they kicked me out of tee-ball as a kid because I used to smash it.
“It’s a thinking sport, there is a lot of strategy involved – it’s not just about brawn.”
Sam plays outfield and short stop, along with his favourite position as hitter.
His selection in the State team sees him follow in his father’s footstep.
