Love a good murder mystery? Our Year 11 Integrated Science students had to put their detective hats on today when they were confronted by a mock crime scene, staged by their science teachers.
The forensic assessment encouraged students to practise the theory they have been studying this term.
The students had to analyse and sketch the crime scene, collect evidence and will later analyse their findings to determine the prime murder suspect.
Evidence included a broken window, rock with a note attached, hair samples, foot and fingerprints and the body (skeleton).
Science teacher Laura Fitzgerald said the project had proven to be a fun way to engage students.
“We have been running the CSI course since 2016,” she said.
“A lot of our students are interested in forensics and this is a way to bring what they like to watch on TV into their studies.
“The assessment requires field, crime scene and lab work. They have to research, collect data, analyse their results and communicate well with their teammate.
“It’s a great way to get the students to use what they have learnt in class in a fun, practical setting.”
