Comet Bay College could have been mistaken for another world on Friday, 23 August, as staff and Year 7 students donned costumes to celebrate Book Week 2019.
Characters from the Wizard of Oz, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and even a host of superheroes roamed the campus for the College’s inaugural Book Week celebrations.
Dean of English Aimee Vukman said the day was filled with fun activities designed to rekindle of love of books and reading.
“Reading is vital for all students as it helps them with studies across the entire curriculum,” she said.
“Book Week is often celebrated by primary schools, but we wanted to join in the fun this year to remind students that reading was just as important for them in high school.
“A love of books, storytelling and all things literary opens up a world of joy for kids.
“It has been great to see so many Year 7s in costume – and some of the teaching staff were unrecognisable!”
The celebrations included a Best Costume competition, photo booth, book swap and a six-word story competition.
The student winner for Best Costume was Grace Robertson – who made her own Mad Hatter extravaganza.
“Her costume was inventive and colourful – fantastic work, Grace,” Ms Vukman said.
The Arts Department won the staff’s faculty competition, paying homage to the Wizard of Oz.
