“At recess, on Friday, February 15th, Comet Bay College was fortunate enough to have members of “Haka for life” perform both a traditional Aboriginal Corroboree and Maori Haka. “Haka for life” is a non-profit charity that promotes mental health awareness. During the performance, group members spoke to the students about the importance of reaching out to friends, family and support agencies, during the times when “you don’t feel ok.” The event was supported by a large crowd of enthusiastic students, who were invited to participate in the final stage of the performance. At lunch, the group ran a workshop for students interested in learning the Haka and Corroboree. This event also scheduled to reinforce the week 3 “Extreme” program focus of using performance to promote unity and community spirit. We sincerely thank “Haka for Life” for both the performance and workshops, which was greatly appreciated by staff and students alike.”
