On Friday the 4th of September, the Year seven GATE class went on an excursion to the Perth Zoo.This term, the Year sevens have been learning about classification of organisms. Their teacher (Mr Holt) thought it would be a good chance for the students to learn about classification around actual animals. The students first learned about the specific Kingdoms and the segregation of animals into invertebrates and vertebrates. They were given the chance to touch some stuffed animals while one of the keepers explained ways to classify. The students then travelled around the zoo looking at different animals, learning about their scientific names and any extra details about the animals. Mr Holt has created an assignment for the students based on ways to save the endangered animals. The students will use what they have learned at the zoo and extra research to find ways to save a specific animal of their choice.
