On Tuesday the 22nd of August, a group of students from Comet Bay College competed in the Peel Region inter-school surfing competition, which was held at Pyramids beach in Dawesville. Seven Schools from around the Peel region competed in the annual event. CBC had two teams competing in the Junior boys division, which consisted of Zane Perry and Campbell Forrest in team 1, and Toby Dodds and Kaiden Barron in team 2.
Zane and Campbell surfed well in round 2 to qualify for the semi-finals, but near the end of the heat, Zane’s head was split open by his board during a wipeout, leaving Campbell to surf with reserve Lachlan Bestford in the semi final.
Both surfed extremely well and won the semi final heat, making it through to the final where they unfortunately suffered a narrow loss to Tranby College. They were awarded a place in the state final due to another regional team dropping out, and were able to surf at Trigg beach on the Friday the 25th August successfully making it through the first round before being knocked out of the competition by Margaret River Senior High.
The senior boys team consisted of Declan Wiersma and Kai Stephen, who made it through the first 2 rounds to win against MCC in the final. The Comet Bay college team finished second overall for the Peel region.
