Jaxon Thorne, Paterson Grove and Katie Robson competed in the Secondary Schools Golf Championship held at Mt Lawley Golf Club on 14th August 2017. Despite the weather conditions the students did very well in the teams event finishing third. This is a great result as its the first time Comet Bay College has entered the event.
Team scores are calculated using the top 2 scores of each team and takes into account their handicap. The CBC team score was 76 with first place being 80 (but with a much higher handicap)
“With a record number entries of 134 students and approximately 18 schools participating, some of which have specialist golf programs, it was a very creditable result. So well done Katie, Paterson and Jaxon who represented the school with the professionalism and etiquette required at such an event.” said Chris Thorne (father of one of the students).
Jaxon has only been playing golf for 18 months.
His individual score was 33 (4 Handicap) on the day.
He plans to apply for a PGA Traineeship next year.
Katie has been playing golf for 2 1/2 years since emigrating to Australia. She scored 40 (4 handicap) at the tournament, rating 2nd place (in Year 11) for her individual score.
Katie hopes to compete in the 2018 Tournament and is looking for interested students to join her in representing Comet Bay College, as Jaxon and Paterson will be graduating at the end of this year.
Paterson has been playing golf for 2 years and had an individual score of 36 (20 handicap) coming third (Year 12) in the competition.
