The Year 8 Trade Day was held on Wednesday the 27th of June in Term Two, and encompassed all of their Economic Curriculum. Trade Day was a real-life market stall, similar to your traditional array of Saturday Community Market Stalls. The students went above and beyond producing some amazing products and services, plus presenting their stalls impeccably and specifically targeting their consumer.
This was a competition amongst their peers, with the winners being those whom made the most money in each class. Each student was only given $20 to spend. This soon became a competition between the Sellers and the Buyers. The Sellers had to find a balance between supply and demand of their product or service and also ensuring they made the most money. The Buyers had to make decisions between their wants and needs, and ensure they achieved their goal of getting the best ‘bang for their buck’
All of the Year 8’s shone as they worked in groups and encompassed the role of potential Entrepreneurs. Some groups created products which they made themselves, for example bath bombs, candles, mobile phone stands, bracelets and cards. Other students devised tricky games, resembling a Time Zone café where they encouraged the buyer to spend their only $20 they were given. Some groups offered a service such as sketching your portrait or reading your fortune. Each student was exceptional with both their commitment and effort but also their creativity.
Well done Year 8’s, you all did an amazing job and should be very proud of yourselves!
