CBC Behaviour Matrix

Educational research demonstrates that positive behaviour in schools comes from developing a school culture in which positive behavioural decision making is overtly taught to all students. As an initiative to enhance the teaching, learning and application of our standing College Rules, the College and the Positive Culture Team have invested significant time and resources in developing and launching the AEIOU Behaviour Expectations Matrix.

The AEIOU matrix provides the CBC community with;

· A mnemonic (a vowel!), with a descriptor and yes/no examples for teaching and reinforcing each of the existing five college rules.
· Youth-friendly, eye catching language and visuals to assist students in learning/demonstrating the college expectations.
· A common, positively phrased language for the CBC community for discussing expected behaviour at the College.
· A focus on positive, visible behaviours that students are expected to demonstrate, not just negative behaviours that students are expected to avoid.

Upon the first day of the year, all students at CBC were shown a short film outlining the AEIOU expectations and completed a learning activity to develop an understanding of its purpose and application.

All teachers will continue to teach and reinforce the AEIOU expectations to their classes on a daily basis throughout the year. Additionally, there will be a specific focus on one expectation for every five weeks, emphasised through assembly, REACH class, recess and lunch activities.

To assist your child in developing their ability to demonstrate these expectations, we recommend that you read through and discuss the behaviour matrix with them at home. This will reinforce the emphasis of these expectations provided by the college and will enhance our efforts in developing the most engaging, safe and inclusive college learning environment possible.

Thank you for your ongoing support,

The Positive Culture Team
