HASS Archaeological Dig – Ancient Rome

Story by Chelsea Carroll – Year 7 student

Yesterday we did a search in a midden that our teachers had made for us.
We were put into groups of 4-6 students and given instructions of how to dig the bits and pieces that were fragile out of the plastic box in which the midden was placed.

We found things like chicken bones, copper, mussel shells, egg shells, leather, arrow heads, pottery, cloth, charcoal, spear heads and much more.
We learnt what a midden and archaeology is, and we also learnt how hard it is to dig up everything without breaking the substances.

This activity was really fun and I hope to do something like this again
