And The Winner Is…

A microchipped badge worn by students to help track attendance was named the winning innovation from our Year 7 entrepreneurs at this week’s Shark Tank event.
The top 10 business concepts from across the cohort were pitched to our judges on Tuesday, including Principal Kelly Bennett, Associate Dean of Gifted and Talented Education Nathan Findlater and Student Support Lower School Dean Tara Armstrong.
Students had spent time during their HASS classes researching, developing and marketing an innovation or invention to solve a problem or meet consumer demand. Some of their creations included a robot orca which cleaned plastics from oceans, water bottles made from bamboo, a microchipped football to record game data and an app to reserve a seat on public transport.
Principal Kelly Bennett said the calibre of ideas was outstanding.
“They really made it hard for us to choose a winner,” she said. “All the students who participated should be congratulated for their outstanding work and presentations.”
Well done to Noah Wood, the brains behind the Class Monitor badge. Second placegetters Tayla Pandava, Malia Rahayudha and Natalia Hall created Cove Custom Bags made from water bottles and Summer Roe and Jemma Aitken came third with their Raymote innovation.
