Worth Her Weight In Gold

Don’t be fooled by Matilda Rennie’s petite frame – this young girl is one tough cookie!
The Year 7 Comet Bay College student is a champion weightlifter, taking home first place in both the WWA F49 Under 15s and U17s contest on the weekend.
The 12-year-old will now compete on the national stage in June and has cemented her place on the WA Youth State Team.
It’s an impressive result considering Matilda only started weightlifting 18 months ago.
“I’ve always done a bunch of different sports but I started Crossfit, which included bit of weightlifting, and I really enjoyed it,” she said.
Matilda trains with Wolf Pack Barbell in Port Kennedy and described the weightlifting community as “family”.
“Weightlifting is a great sport for girls, more people should do it because it’s not very common,” she said.
“When you get a new personal best it feels really good.”
