Coffee Anyone?

Did you know Comet Bay College runs a Barista Academy which gives Year 11 and 12 students the opportunity to get certified accreditation?
A group of dedicated student volunteers run the before-school café where they are responsible for all areas of the business, including planning, setting up, taking orders and payments, preparing food and beverages, customer service and cleaning up.
Barista Academy coordinator Jamie Wellman said the students learned a host of skills which could open doors for employment.
“We started the Academy in 2020 and it has grown popular with both the enthusiastic volunteers and the teachers who enjoy a tasty treat before school,” he said.
“The students gain valuable hospitality skills, as well as other key life skills by working so closely together to manage the enterprise. By the end of the year, they should be ready for employment – we certainly had a good track record of this last year.”
The students will be certified at the end of the course, and have the opportunity to gain an extra certificate through an external training excursion. They can also log their community service hours through their endorsed programs to go toward their WACE grades.
The Barista Academy has plans to expand, and will soon be serving coffees to staff and upper school students during recesses.
