Comet Bay College STEM Champions!

Comet Bay College was crowned the overall winner of the STEM Olympiad competition recently, and has an impressive haul of trophies to display.
The STEM Olympiad is an initiative of the Southern Corridor Technologies PACT Group – a group of 11 schools from Atwell to Halls Head who have run interschool STEM competitions since 2017.
The 2021 Olympiad was hosted by Coastal Lakes College and had four schools competing – Comet Bay College, Coastal Lakes College, Ridge View Secondary College and John Tonkin College.
Design and Technologies Associate Dean Clay Woolcock said 12 of the College’s 16 competitors were students from our Year 7 and 8 STEM Academy classes, with four Year 9s also participating.
“There were four STEM competitions run on the day – a Model Glider competition (design and build a glider which had to fly as far as possible); a CO2 Dragster competition (design and build a dragster in a day which covers 20m as fast as possible); a Bottle Rocket competition (design and build a rocket from a 2L soft drink bottle that flies as far as possible); and a MasterChef-style Mystery Box cooking competition,” he said.
“Comet Bay College had teams in all four events, which came first in the CO2 Dragster and Model Glider competitions, second in the Mystery Box competition, and a close third in the Bottle Rocket competition. These combined results saw us win the overall champion title.”
Congratulations to all students involved!
