Palette Knife Portraits

Colourful portraits and striking eye paintings filled our art room last week after our Year 10 Art Extension students completed two of their Semester One projects.
Art teacher Meg Henderson said the project encouraged students to explore different types of portraits and mediums.
The eyes were painted using palette knives – a method Ms Henderson said put many of our budding artists out of their comfort zone.
“Using palette knives was more difficult than most of the students anticipated, but they have all learned a new skill,” she said.
“This project challenged them to use a bunch of different materials and mediums so that when they self-direct a project, they can draw upon a wider range of skills and have more confidence taking risks.”
