Heroes Don’t Always Wear Capes

Comet Bay College students got an up-close look at the role of first responders within our community during a special Career Development incursion recently.
Representatives from the Department of Fire and Emergency Services, State Emergency Services (SES) and WA Police, including the Recruitment Centre, were on hand to talk to Year 10, 11 and 12 students interested in first respondent career pathways.
Students were treated to presentations from each department about recruitment processes, as well as displays, equipment demonstrations and mentorship from people working in their field of interest.
“Many of the students who signed up for this incursion had a clear vision of their career pathway, and they were enthusiastic and genuinely very inquisitive,” Ms Hunt said.
“During recess and lunchtime the displays were open to all students, including an Emergency Fire Truck and Police vehicles, with interactive displays of riot and protective gear.
“This incursion provided a fantastic opportunity to learn more from the people who are living their dream.”
