Baristas in Training

Our Staff can now enjoy café-style coffees thanks to a team of dedicated students!
The Year 11 and 12 students are ‘baristas in training’ who have been learning how to make a selection of beverages over the past two weeks.
They put their skills to the test for staff two days per week before school.
Teachers Jamie Wellman and Marc Mlachak have been overseeing the program, training students in all areas of hospitality.
“The students have been very enthusiastic about learning a new skill, which can open doors for them when looking for employment,” Mr Wellman said.
“Our expectation is that the students run a professional enterprise here on campus and they are responsible for all areas of the business including planning, setting up, taking orders and payments, preparing the coffees, serving and cleaning up.”
Mr Wellman said he hoped students would soon be able to gain certified qualifications through a program which will be extended to include Year 10s.
“There are valuable business lessons being taught and this will be a fantastic qualification for students to add to their resume, especially for those wanting to work in the hospitality industry,” he said.
