Girls of Courage Camp 2020

Earlier this term, 14 students enjoyed a week of camping and outdoor adventures during the Girls of Courage Camp.

Generously sponsored by Soldier On and Outward Bound Australia, this excursion was offered to female Defence students, cadets and students interested in a Defence career.

Outward Bound Australia’s WA base and program delivery area is located on private property near Mount Clare, and also travels through the Walpole-Nornalup National Park.

Teacher Charissa Efthyvoulos said the Year 8 to 12 girls challenged themselves to try new things including hiking, rafting, high-rope courses, camp activities and high-beam fun.

“They really surprised themselves with what they could do,” she said.

“We rafted for about 6km in the rain and wind, and it was tough, but it proved a real highlight for the girls.
“It was great to get off the grid, build bonds and appreciate the beautiful coastal scenery.”

Defence School Mentor Claire Hunt said she was proud of the girls and what they achieved.

“They learnt so many new skills under some challenging conditions, whilst displaying compassion and support for each other,” she said.

“The camp was highly successful in developing an ethos of teamwork and building their self-confidence and resilience.

“We sincerely thank the sponsors for this amazing opportunity.”
