STUDENTS DESIGN THEIR OWN PERSONAL FITNESS PROGRAM

Year 10 Fitness students have put their knowledge and skills to the test this term by designing their own personal fitness programs.

The programs are conducted over two sessions each week – one cardiovascular-based with a goal to run 10km, while the other is a gym-based, resistance session using a variety of equipment including fixed weight machines, barbells, TheraBands, suspension trainers, medicine balls and more.

Associate Dean of Health and Physical Education Gillian Hassan said designing individual fitness plans was a new initiative which encouraged students to take personal responsibility for their own wellbeing.

“The main aim is to develop lifelong health and fitness knowledge which can be utilised long after they leave school,” she said.

“It has been wonderful to see the students use the knowledge and skills they have learnt all year to develop personal plans. They have demonstrated high energy levels and a great commitment to the program as a whole.”
