Athletics Interschool Team Competitors Trial Day

Athletics Trial Day

Teacher Simon Bell and the Physical Education Team coordinated a successful Athletics Interschool Team Competitors Trial Day last week. Students from Year 8 -12 participated in various track and field activities. Each station was managed and scored by the Year 11 & 12 students currently studying Cert II Sport Coaching as part of their Assessments.

The students were enthusiastically challenging their personal best and we had some great performances on the day.
Well done to everyone involved.

Running

There were 5 distance races run for each year group:
1500m
800m
400m
200m
and the 100m sprint

Outstanding times for 1500m
4.38m    Thomas Rutherford Year 12
4.39m    Ethan Lamont Year 10

Long Jump

Competitors sprint along a runway and jump as far as possible into a sandpit from a marked take-off. The distance travelled, from the edge of the board to the closest indentation in the sand to it, is then measured.

A foul is committed – and the jump is not measured – if an athlete steps beyond the take-off point.

The students also competed in Triple Jump.

Thanks again go to all the staff members and students who assisted with the running of the Athletics Carnival. It really was a great day!

Student produced video , using drone video footage and stills taken by the by the CBC Production Team.
Thank you Teacher Pierre Potgieter for coordinating.

Discus Throwing

Students must throw a metal disc weighing 2kg for boys (22cm diameter) and 1kg for girls (18cm diameter), as far as possible whilst remaining inside a 2.5-metre diameter circle. In order for the throw to be measured, the discus must land inside a marked sector and the athlete must not leave the circle before it has landed.

High Jump

Competitors jump unaided and take off from one foot over a four-metre long horizontal bar. They seek to clear the greatest height without knocking the bar to the ground.

All students had three attempts per height. Three consecutive failures at the same height, or combination of heights, cause a competitor’s elimination.

Not all the photos were uploaded to the college Facebook.
