Science students visit the Zoo

Our Year 12 Human Biology classes are currently studying the trends in primates and hominids and how they link to evolution. So a trip to Perth Zoo was a perfect opportunity to strengthen their understanding of this topic.

The students had an interesting excursion to the zoo which included the ‘Past to Present Primates Presentation’ to look at the skull trends and features from early primates (eg: monkeys) to great apes (eg: gorillas) and then into the skulls of early homo species up to homo sapiens.

Some of the highlights of this excursion was the Painted Dogs had pups, a few students participated in the eye to eye encounter with the giraffe which was brilliant and being surrounded by the animals and lovely gardens gave them a refreshing break from all of their studying and school work.

Thanks go to Science Teacher Laura Ellam and Kendle Reid for organising this educational excursion.
